Jake Leahy is a small business owner, school board member, and community organizer. Born to Steven and Teresa Leahy in Chicago, Illinois, Jake saw the value of hard work right away. When he was born, his mother worked full time in the medical field during the day, while his father worked as a union ironworker (Local 136) as he had for twenty years, while also attending school at night. Soon after he was born, his father started his own business, which played an essential role in the Leahy household. Coming from a small business family, the family business was something which was constantly at the forefront of discussion.
Jake grew up in Lake County, and attended public schools, Bannockburn Elementary School and Deerfield High School. At the beginning of his high school career, he competed as a warrior on DHS's baseball and football teams. He later started the "Deerfield Political Club," a bipartisan group of students who were willing to discuss the current issues of the day, without worry for partisan politics or talking points. Outside of school, he learned about independent leadership from the best, Congressman Bob Dold. Additionally, he served on the Board of Directors for American Youth in Politics, a 501(c)(3) organization, organized an annual fundraiser at Bannockburn School, worked on staff for a State Representative campaign, and of course worked the McDonald's drive thru for almost two and a half years, where he developed relationships with people who would change his worldview forever.
With this unique upbringing, Jake decided he could best serve his community by running for his local school board, despite still being a full time K-12 student. At the end of his senior year, while still worried about prom, college, and everything else that surrounds the end of high school, he decided to run for the school board. And to the surprise of some, he was not just elected, but he was actually the leading vote getter, with three incumbents also on the ballot. On the school board, he has been a proponent of fiscal responsibility, improving district communication, and increasing transparency. In his short time on the board, he is proud of the actions he has already been able to take, which has even included a 5% cut in property taxes.
He is studying at the University of Illinois, where is a cofounder and treasurer of "Impact Illinois" a bipartisan political group on campus, an Associate Justice for the Illinois Student Government, and the Alumni Relations Chair for the Illinois Delta chapter of Phi Kappa Psi.
He is a committed advocate for education across all zip codes, and will tirelessly defend the students and taxpayers of Bannockburn School District 106 as well as those across all of Lake County, and Illinois.

Dediction to Excellence
In the end, our goal must be to provide a world class education to the Bannockburn School District 106 community. We must continue to provide a great education.
We need to take meaningful measures to improve engagement with the community and to promote transparency.
Fiscal responsibility is a must. We must look honestly at the way our district operates and work to once and for all reduce property taxes.
